Any KISS Fans Out There?

Kevin O'Connell - Deceased - 1954 - 2019

February 10, 1954 - May 12, 2019
In 1996 I got a call from a gentleman who was working on an upcoming KISS reunion tour. The band would be performing a song called "Firehouse" and they needed a siren to blast at a certain point in the song. I gave him a few options and he seemed to be attracted to a 1957 S8B. "Is it loud?", he asked. I proudly answered, "Oh, yeah. In fact, I guarantee this siren to give you an honest 110
dB(A) at 100 feet." Silence. Finally, he said, "Well, I guess we could mike it up...." We haggled over the price and finally agreed on some cash and 4 floor seats at one of the L.A. shows in 1997. I'm not a big KISS fan but the show was great.

Tuesday I got a call from an electrician on the current tour. They're still using the (now 52 year-old) siren 13 years later! Some one knocked over a road case and spilled battery acid on their siren and controls, ruining the brake. They'll be in L.A. on November 25. A siren brake oughtta be worth a couple of floor seats, don't you think?

Here's a link to a performance of "Firehouse". The siren sounds at 3:00 or so and runs through the end of the song. The band is so loud that it's difficult to recognize what kind of siren they're using...

Can't stand that kind of music but I did enjoy the reality show. Often wondered if the stories about him and his 1001 partners were true. :p

battery acid

If they would use one of the new Optima batteries they would not have a problem with acid. No pun intended.

Actually, I suggested that when they bought the siren. As often happens in show business there was probably a last minute crisis resulting in a last minute purchase of whatever they could get. I now recommend the Odyssey battery, which is an AGM (Absorbred Glass Mat) type with staggering capacity for abuse.
