another '57 located

Pics were forwarded by a scout of this '57 Superior somewhere in southern Mexico over the holiday break. As I haven't more details (like configuration), exact location, or asking price (couple conflicting reports), the post is going in general discussion so everyone can see pics. This one does look quite solid and original - more so than the like 3 or 4 models currently available in the US and Canada. Nice candidate for preservation. Enjoy~

The Chrysler would make a nice companion for my Pinner Chrysler ambulance...

I would say the '57 is a Superior, without a doubt. Looks to be a combination, but I say that because there seems to be some sort of a cabinet in there.

The Chrysler I believe to be a '64 300.

Did the Superior script on the rear quarter give that away Bill, or the fact that another exact coach is sitting at my sign shop..? :D

It can be a combination or an end loader. I'm personally leaning toward end loader, given lack of external combination gear.

Silly Me!

Well, I must say, the script is there, although I didn't notice it. And obviously, I realize that most of us recognize the styling without reading the script. But, didn't somebody ask the question?

Oops! I should have read the original post more carefully. I realize now that nobody asked, what can I say?

..................

The Chrysler I believe to be a '64 300.

The Chrysler is a 1963 300 model (it is not a letter car). The difference between the 1963 and the 1964 is that the headlamp trim changed, and the 1963 bumper is straight across, and the 1964 has a dip in the middle where the grille is. These are subtle differences but enough to make it so a Chrysler owner will be able to tell the difference between the two. Also the tail lamps are the clincher... 1963 are round, and 1964 are square and have some resemblance to the Chrysler Star..

The "Letter Car" series was the high performance version of the Chrysler. It originally started in 1955 with the designation of just being a Chrysler 300. In 1956, they introduced the first letter designation as letter "B". They proceeded every year thereafter until they got to the letter "L" in 1965, which ended the 300 letter car series. Starting in 1963, they capitalized on the 300 nameplate by introducing the 300 model, however, it was not to be confused with the 300 J. The 300 was used that year as an Indy Pace Car, and they also sold a 300 pace car replica. An interesting thing is that they never produced a 300 I, since the "I" might have been confused with the number 1.

I guess this explains why in the current reincarnation of the Chrysler 300 that the Hi-Po version with the hemi is called the 300 M
