and they are gone

My Cadillac LaSalle Club magazine came today. Imagine how my heart sank when I read about the yard in New Jersey that had procars back into the 40s. Who knew this was there? And now they are gone. Too bad, as some of them were said to be very restorable. And in the pics they looked restorable or excellent parts. Unique Salvage of Jackson, NJ.

Unfortunately, sometimes, the people that knew of these cars being in there kept it a closely guarded secret from the collector car hobbyist, and as a result, many people that could have used these cars for parts will never have the opportunity to get the parts that they need. The other thing that happens is that the yard doesn't want to sell some parts off a car, but sell only the car itself. If they can't get what they want for the whole car, then they just scrap it for the metal value. I am having a hard time finding parts for a 1978 Cadillac since so many of them were crushed in this last round of high steel prices. The few remaining cars that are still in yards, the yard operators think that everything is gold, when in reality, it isn't. We will always be torn between paying an outrageous price for a single part or going without.

even back here that is true, the one yard that had all the old 20 30 40 50 cars crushed . he had to decide how many of each type of car he really needed for what he was sell off them. the taxes to house the cars and what he could get for steel. they're crushing here for around 120 a ton. the worse part is they are staying busy.
