Tony Karsnia - Deceased - 1971-2020
September 12, 1971 - November 2, 2020
We were paid a visit yesterday by an old friend and fellow ambulance buff, Brian Schuff of Winnipeg, Manitoba. He and his friend, DeAnn, were passing through the area, so we met up for lunch at the Village Inn** (a common Northland hospitality spot.) It was such a nice fall day, I drove the Lifeliner over and we had a wonderful visit, much of it spent reminiscing about the "old days" of ambulance service buffing.
At one time, Brian owned three 1977 Cadillac ambulances; one Miller-Meteor and two Superiors. The Miller-Meteor now has a loving home in the hands of Kurt and Kristen Halverson of Owatonna, MN. One Superior was the Lord Funeral Home car (subsequently operated by Ray Nowak at Memorial Ambulance.) Sadly, that car rusted beyond restoration and no longer exists. Brian still owns the other Superior, which originally belonged to Drumheller, Alberta. It is in need of restoration, but is for sale if anyone is interested. $6,200 US.
**The Village Inn will surely be rememberd by LeeAnn Boston, who just couldn't believe the sheer selection of homemade pies. Their latest concoction is a chocolate pie with bacon pieces on top, called "The Salty Hog." I did not try it...
