Ambulance/Police Light Lot

Hey again guys! Tapping into still more knowledge! I came into this lot of what i am assuming is some ambulance and police lights. Im guessing mostly police. Ill get right to it.

These i THINK could be ambulance? Please bear in mind i have only recently gotten interested in ambulance and the vintage lights and sirens. They say "Dietz 7-50. They appear to be the oldest pieces in the lot. I thought they were neat looking. I got one to work, i think the other has a ground issue. The chrome is pitted but in OK shape.

Not sure of their use and function, but neat never the less.

Next is a couple of light bars.

Both i think are cop cars but maybe ambulance? I doubt it tho.

And these 2 MARS sky bolts. These are HUGE!

I think these went on a bar. The bar is there too i believe.

There is also some miscellaneous blue/red/amber lenses and some bracketry. Also some parts i assume for light bars. Extra lenses and these things

Pretty neat stuff i think. Couldn't pass it up. If anyone's interested in any of this let me know.

Any and all info you can give me on, these lights is much appreciated. Thanks guys! Enjoy!

The Dietz lollipops were sometimes used on some of the station wagon conversion ambulances in the late '60s and '70s. They were also used on a lot of fire vehicles. One county here in MD used them on a lightbar with a single beacon and two lollipops for their fire chief's cars.

The lightbars are Federal Twinsonics. They were used on ambulances in the '70s, as well as police cars and fire apparatus. The colors varied from state to state for what colors were used on what types of vehicles.

The item with the two red and two blue bulbs looks to be the inner workings of a Federal 184 beacon (flat top). Can't tell from the pic if the motor is there or not.

updates!

Well i brought some of this stuff inside to tinker with. The two light bars are twinsonics. One is a model 12X and the other a 12F.

The mars Skybolt light bar is pretty cool. My favorite find in a while. Any info on vintage and value would be awesome if any one has some knowledge of this tyoe of stuff

As Steve Lichtman has noted, the Dietz lollipops were quite popular on station wagon ambulances, and also on lowtop Suburbans as well.

Here in West Texas, the DoRay lollipop lights dominated...especially on the ambulances: both staton wagons and Suburbans, manufactured by the old Gordon K. Allen Co., parent company of the ill-fated Modular Ambulance Corp.

However, Gordon K. Allen would build to suit the buyer, so a number of ambulances left their Dallas plant with the big Dietz lollipops. The common conversion on GKA ambulances was a center-mounted Q siren on the roof, flanked by two or four lollipops with a Federal 17 beacon in the rear. GKA's primary competion, Summers Coach and Ambulance in Duncanville, also provided similar ambulance coversions, but a lot of theirs came with Unity lollipops. But like, GKA, Summers also built to suit.

Steve Loftin has numerous pictures showing most of these conversions!

light bar

Looks better on the dining table. Anyway, back in the 60's those were used to augment a bubble light. My home town ambulance service used low tops and combo's with one Federal 174 and two lollipops.

Hi Kevin: Haven't heard anything out of you in some time. What you note reminds me of an ambulance used by a funeral home here in Midland many years ago. It was nice baby-blue '65 Dodge wagon conversion, with a red 184 on the roof flanked by a pair of Federal LL4 red lollipops, with a underhood siren. Compared to the lighting packages I'd seen on some of their ambulances over the years, this one was verybasic; but it did the job.
