air cleaner

it has always bothered me to see the listing of cars for sale. the pictures very seldom show the air cleaner on the engine. this is most likely because the carb is in bad shape and in order to start it you would need to prime the carb or on the last attempt to fire the car, they removed the Air cleaner . leaving the carburetor exposed even in a car with the hood on is risky business. a lot of ways some thing can get in. this 58 is a fine example of the problem. it was moved around the last place it was stored at half a dozen times summer to mow. but it not running quite right and gas is leaking out so we thought it best to make a run threw and replace the shrunk up gaskets etc. look what we found in the secondaries. put those air cleaners back on even if you think you'll be right back there tomorrow. you can see the acorn but not all the oak leaves

Thanks for the post, I did find some humor, in that, that's one way to feed the squirrels under the hood. The squirrels seem to be putting out more horses that the diesels in the forum. Thanks for the information, I'm bad about leaving the housing off when tinkering around with the carb.

I hear ya Ed. Even with the air cleaner in place we still discovered all kinds of mouse crap and nestings in the carb. It would have been far worse without the air cleaner.
