Ed ,
I just wanted to say a very BIG THANK YOU publicly.......
I had the 72 Superior Ambulance on the rack today at my friends shop and after changing the front and rear shocks..we did a "check" of all and everything that we could check....
Well the Pitman Arm was lose...so loose that it was ratteling around while being driven......after calling 6 differant parts shops MOOG and TRW..we had no luck in finding a Pitman Arm......some places suggested finding one in a wrecking yard and putting in a "used" one......well neither one of us was thrilled with that.......so we started thinking....now what??
I said "I KNOW.......... PCS".......I did a search for Pitman Arm...and came up with 3 topics.....the one that helped the MOST..was Ed's reply to someone who was looking for a Pitman Arm.....Ed said "make sure it is the PITMAN ARM you need otherwise it may be the IDLER ARM people often get those 2 mixed up"....
Well ED was correct....my friend had made that very mistake.....!!
A quick call the O'Reillys...and it will be here Monday.......
Ed you SAVED me valuable time and MONEY.....I SALUTE YOU !!!::applause:
Your knowlege and expertise is very welcomed by this ambulance lover !!
Hip-Hip HOORAY !!!
Jim

I have never seen a Pitman arm go bad.steering sector yes but then all you do is pull the arm off and put it on the new sector. but as long as you getting a idler get two. put the other in a baggie and in the under floor storage compartment. because when the one you putting on goes bad you might not find another.

Do not use anything other than a identical part as the one you remove. If you have a choice of a anti friction, ball bearing, or any other non original modification part, just pass on it. There is nothing as important to the overall steering as the idler arm. It is what connects to the relay rod, and the relay rod is what moves the wheels. If the idler arm isn't correct for the car in geometry, then the car will handle like a squirrel on steriods....

golf shoes the run all over you with golf shoes you make one teeny tiny error in judgment and they never let you up around here. but pay attention to what Paul said, a lot of the after market stuff out there is almost right if she doesn't handle right after putting the new one one, try a different brand.
