A Last Ride

Yesterday I had the honour and the priviledge of using the 68 Dodge to give a friend, former colleague and EMS Pioneer Gerald "Jerry" Fielding his last ride from the funeral service to the creamatorium. Jerry started his career at ABC Ambulance in Windsor (now you know why I lettered the car) in 1957 and retired from Windsor Provincial Ambulance in 1996. During his career he delivered 100 babies, taught thousands of citizens Red Cross First Aid and later CPR , raised thousands of dollars for the first EMS defibrillators in Windsor and was a mentor to many new paramedics.Jerry helped create the Windsor Paramedic Bike Patrol in 1990 and remained active with the Bike Patrol until about 18 months ago. On top of all of this, after retirement, he and friend roller bladed from Windsor to Ottawa (an 8 hour car drive) to raise money for Muscular Dystrophy. Jerry, you had a great career and touched many lives, may you rest in peace my friend.

A very fitting last ride for such a fine human being. What an honor it must have been for you. Not to mention how great the car looks.

I remember Jerry biking through Woodstock some years back,he was all Dean said, and more,a true gentleman, and ultimate professional,RIP.

I have always thought it a great honor to use one of my cars in a service, although a sad event, it really makes you feel good to give a personalized touch to someones life.

RIP Jerry!

What a way to commemorate a life dedicated to the emergency services!
Moving on in style!

Thank you for the pictures.
I am sure Jerry would thank you for his final ride.

Dean,we need Walt and Len to update us on the history of ABC,I have relatives in Windsor who had told me years ago about it when I first became a medic, and with Walt being a reporter back then,I am sure it would be very informative, that which can be printed!!:smileflagcan:
