a hearse question

i have been interested in old hearses now for many years now , and was wondering what states has the most hearses other then fh.living in the woods of maine i dont see many , was wondering what states allow them to be used other then fh, was told that most fh scrap them when they are done with them, i know maine used to years back, remember seeing them at a salvage yard.both of my hearses come from out of state. thanks steve

I don't think any state regulates what you do with a hearse after it's sold by a funeral home. So really, in any state, you can use a hearse for whatever you want.

Most funeral homes trade in or sell their hearses, and don't scrap them, when they are done. Some go to smaller funeral homes, some go to "artists" (see the other thread), some go to people who want to haul a lot of stuff, and some end up with collectors like us.

I doubt there's any way to know what states have the most hearses. It stands to reason that the biggest states with the highest populations have the most funeral homes, the most hearses, and the most retired hearses. So based on size alone, probably California has the most, since they have the most of anything!

If you're living in the woods of Maine and don't see many hearses, it's probably because you live in the woods of Maine! They are out there. :)

all they are is a car built for a special propose. that alone limits there numbers. but all in all the are not hard to find or that expensive to buy. only if your looking for one type out of one year do you have to dig.

I would say most hearses were MADE in OH.

Who has the most at this point would likely be OH or PA as both states are about tied for PCS members. Far more members than all other states.

Idaho, Vermont & Wyoming listed 1 member in each state in the last PRINTED PCS roster.

California is likely a good guess for the most diverse USE of retired hearses.

Whoever you are, where ever you are, no matter what hearse you own, mint or ruff, original or not... ENJOY THE RIDE !

From one hearse lover to another... nothing finer than rolling down the highway in the car of your dreams !

Keep them running,
Darren
