Does anyone know off hand what the inverter in a 72 Superior ambulance is rated at ??
as far as watts are concerned......I have looked in the service manual...and it has no mention of it.....

Trying to get ready for a December Christmas parade that she will be in .....:thumb:

She is being sponsored by Kaiser Permanente.....so I will have to be doing some decorating I'm sure....and would like to know what she can handle safely......
Thanks in advance !!

If you can find the inverter itself, the watt output will be listed on the inverter. Not sure where it is, but it would look like a battery charger. My guess would be about 750 watts. If you use LED lights, you should have plenty of output. xmass

Some of the ones I have seen at Christmas parades put green clear wrap over the white lights (loading and scene) to give it a yule look and save power for the led strings I have even used a cassette deck with christmas songs and held the mike open on the siren.(electronic) just some energy saving tips from the frozen north, where two people walking behind a flag=a parade.

not many of the old transformers left work. but if it does you can bet on 15 amps at 110 volts at least. if some one has put a different one in then it will be stamped at the outlet.

It does work, and the indicator light also comes on.....(where you plug in your 110)....

the item I plugged in was 120v -400w....

...and it did fine...:thumb:...so maybe Steve is right with 750watt....

I guess I could "search" for the inverter...but dont really want to tear everything apart to find it.....

A hundred watt light bulb draws about 1 amp, a 1400 watt hair dryer draws about 14 amps. If you don't know what it is rated for, then you run the risk of burning it out. The only reliable way to know what it is rated for, is to find it and read the data plate. Also, remember that as these items age, the ability to work as well as they did when new also diminishes. I would suggest that you use the lowest drawing lighting that you can find, and be conservative in how much current that you draw. If I had to guess, I wouldn't be inclined to guess higher than 10 amps. Also, keep in mind that if the inverter were to short out, there is a chance for a fire. I would so some investigating to find where it is located, and make sure that there is no mouse nest sitting on top of it.

the original equipment was a transformer hooked to one of the braces under the hood. or on the inner fender. not a lot of places to hid one except behind the seat or in the tool box.

Different manufacturer...

but the 1969 S&S brochure states two options for 110 volt ac power - 275 watt or 1200 watt depending on what your needs were. I would think that Superior had similar options available.
