70's 80's first Aid Kit

Can anyone show me a picture of what was used as a first Aid kit in the 70's and 80's ? for the Horton, what I'm thinking is a Orange tool box kind of thing ?? am I wrong ? I need to know so I can start looking for one.

thanks

70's and 80's the big thing was the dyna-med trauma box, opened up with more spaces to store stuff than any tackle box I saw.and fully loaded had to be heavy ,in Ontario we had bags, first blue/white then dark blue and for a while had a resuscitator/suction and first aid kit all in one was made in Stratford by Samsonite , and it was Omaha Orange.if you like could check with a local hoarder to see if he would part with one.

first aid kits

we started in Ottawa with metal tool boxes with the single shelf... I made one for the International and painted it white with the red symbol we aren't supposed to admit to using on the side and top. If you want one of the orange Samsonite MOH ones from way back send me a private message.

Toolbox to Tacklebox

When I started in 76 Mike, we used a small tool box. We moved to the Plano 747 then the Plano 747M. The difference is the 747M is orange and white. I have stack of them in my garage not being used if you can't find any. I haven't seen any for 20-30 bucks though. New, they retail for a little over a hundred, but if you watch ebay I have been snagging them for around 50-75 depending on condition.

When I first started in the 60's we used re-purposed stevenson resuscitator boxes. Then we went to tube caddy's,which were good, cause they held a lot more stuff, then along came 747's and then soft nylon packs, which we still use today. Our back up trauma box on our fire co. ambulance is still a tube caddy. Whatever works!!:blahblah:

when I started back in 1971, we used Craftsman tool boxes that were painted white. They were in service until the late 70s when we started switching to the Plano 727/747s which lasted until the "soft" Thomas packs became popular.

When I started with the Montgomery County First Aid Unit in 1977, we used Montgomery Wards metal toolboxes and some old Air Force metal (heavy) toolboxes. I saved a couple of each.

First Aid Kits

In the middle 70's and into the 80's while operating in paramedic transport ambulances I used the Plano 747 as a med box. This carried IV equipment, meds, and airway equipment. We always had an additional soft pack for first aid and minimal airway gear that would be safe to throw to a partner down in the ditch at the scene of a crash. So we had two kits.

Old School

I hate these fancy pantsy stupid soft kits. I have the soft kits in all of my cruisers EXCEPT for my car that proudly still employs the Plano 747M. Change is STUPID

Acadian Ambulance used...

these leather MD kits when I first started. Had some cardiac box as well, but I can't recall the brand they used before PLANO.

Policy was that it had to be in the front cab at all times (unless in use in the back), so that you had it with you when you arrived on scene as you exited the ambulance.

Bought this one on eBay sometime ago.

I fixed up a Sylvania Radio Tube Box as a kit. It was just plain as could be, said Sylvania, under a very old EMT bumper sticker on each side.

and then I put even older stuff inside of it. Just because.

We use those universal precautions material bags on the ambo; but my personal kit is a large, orange, plastic box. Same theory. If it gets dirty, bloody, et al; wipe it off. It's lasted me 15+ years. No reason to change, where as my oxygen bag, I've replaced that at least a half dozen times.
