69 m&m

Found this cool car a few years ago. Papers in the car indicate it once belonged to Steele Memorial Hospital. Just got it running and now deciding on paint. It is missing the top siren and beacon, but a Q may look nice up front and a federal beacon on the top. It even had blank medical patient reports in the back. It is funny how sometimes these cars get taken out of service, then almost frozen in time.

It appears to be very similar to my 1969 with some very slight differences. Mine has trim on the rear quarter behind the wheel skirt, and it is white, red, white. From memory, we both have the same inside medicine cabinet, however, mine doesn't have vents at the bottom. Miller Meteor must have had a lot of different ways that they installed the heating and air conditioning in the cars for the same year, since I don't ever remember seeing any two that were alike.
Looking at the "platform" on the front roof, I think that might have been for something like a Mars 888 light, and it either had a roof mounted siren further back on the roof, or under the hood.
If you would like any pictures of my car, or if I can help in any way, please let me know...
Paul

That sure is a great find! It reminds me of my 1967 Miller Meteor Classic 48 that we bought from it's original owner, the town of South Hackensack. I was so excited when I bought it and it was in much worse condition than your ambulance, not abuse, but age.

Jim's car features Miller-Meteor's innovative two-way jump seat. The rear-facing jump seat can be repositioned to face the right rear door. This feature was commonly found in combination cars, but was also available in ambulances, as seen here.

Nice save, Jim!

Man,I love that car...Great lines..I worked for a M-M dealer in the clean up shop when I was a kid and still really like those big clasics...

Wow Jim...great car! what a lot of fun you have ahead of you with it.

I'd love to see what the patient run report looks like also if you could post a scan of it.

Please keep us posted on your progress with it.

it does have a familiar look to it. there a nice size car. but enough to be impressive but small enough to fit in a normal garage with the lights on. most of them had a 184 for the center light. the tin mount looks to flimsy for a Q but would do a Mars light nicely. did it use a electric siren?

Thanks everyone. I'll keep the progress posted. There was once a great 67 M&M from Lake Tahoe, CA Fire Department. Anyone know where that one went? I remember it having a nice paint layout but don't have any photos.

Nice 1969 M+M. I drove several 69 and 70s for Memorial Ambulance Service (MAS) in Buffalo. We had several pictures of our 69 M+Ms identical to your car appear in the article a wrote about MAS in PCS 145. Thanks for the pictures it is a trip down memory lane for me! :applause:

at one time there was a ball on the tip that the came up agents the slot as they were a press on kind of thing they never lasted vary long. I looked all over for one for Paul's and never came across one

What a beauty! Looks like everything is there and that out-of-production rear floor looks to be in great shape. Is there anywhere in HI you'll be able to get her up to highway speed once she gets out and about? :D
