'69 M-M Ambulance......

My '69 M-M Ambulance appears to be a work in progress, but progress is very slow. So are, the back door and the roof are finished with painting, and they are now working on the left side. This represents about 18 months of work, since it is a fill in job at the body shop. The paint on every panel is being ground off, then a metal etching coat is applied, and then a sand-able primer. The shop owner keeps saying that it will be finished before next November, but I have my doubts. I don't mind the wait for 2 reasons.. He is storing it for me over the winter, and his work is excellent.

Slowly but the biggest part of the job is the preparing for the paint! I did it myself for my '78 NYPD car and it took 150 hours of preparation, 4 hours of painting.... then the rest for polishing and reinstalling all the parts.

Your ambulance looks to be in good shape, what about the chrome and trims? Good shape too?

Front and rear bumpers are out for re-plating, and all the stainless steel moldings are being polished. There is no rust anywhere in the car, except for some surface rust and blistered paint behind the taillight housings.

It has a tilt steering column, and a rim blow steering wheel that only works in a few positions. This car was ordered with many options from both Cadillac and Miller Meteor.

Do you have any interior photos, Paul? I'm curious to compare your car to my '68 Classic 48. Looks like they both have the taller, "Rescuer" type dispensary cabinet.

This will be a very sharp rig when you are finished. What we need to do is have a "Classic 48 / Volunteer" theme at a future M-M Reunion:

1966: Art Gregory
1967: Bill Marcy's former car
1968: Tony Karsnia (and there is a PCS member who is restoring another one)
1969: Paul Steinberg
1970: Steve Lichtman, Dan Brintlinger
1971: Scott Anderson
1972: Trudy Klein

Here are the interior photo's from when I purchased the car. I have more, but can't find them right now...

Another '72 Volunteer belongs to Bethesda-Chevy Chase Rescue Squad here in Maryland. They've owned it since new, and had it restored just after mine was.

I'm in, give me a date to work backward from to plan the restoration of my car. May have to put solar panels on the roof and convert to electric in order to drive there with gas prices as they are.
