Interesting to note how the soda doesn't affect the stainless or the glass.

when I had my Lifeliner media (glass) blasted all of the windows and stainless were covered with cardboard and some of the media still got through in a few spots.
 
James, it cleanes the pores of the rust but doesn't eat through it, unless its really bad rust. Look at the bottom rocker in this pic. The blasting opened it up.

easer to work on the rockers that way. so what are you killing the soda with? heard some stories on residue left over. but as we don't have that service available here I have no experience with it. at least with it you aren't digging sand out of everything for years afterward. did they do the door jams also? that to me would be the advantage of it. not having to remove the door to clean up the bad spots. it takes me a couple days to strip on with paper. then you still got to get it apart to get all the edges.
 
use vinegar. the acid will kill the alkali and etch the metal at the same time. then soap and water to kill the vinegar, it has a oil base. then follow up right away with the self etching primer to catch the flash rust. then you can now find any bad spots in the panel easily and repair them on your schedule. you only have two products to buy and don't have to mess with the lacquer wipe down. you will have to sand the self etching before you put the primer surfacer on. but at least your not going to get any rust forming before you get the car finished and you have a good barrier down to build off from. the vinegar trick was one used in the 50s-60s to kill rust on a panel that had been burnt. the white is a stronger acid if I remember correct.

A lot of work in this fender. Believe it or not that was a 64 and a 63 combined to make that one fender. My body man had to re-dolly the bodyline to make it look right.

in reality it's a 59 and a 64 fender combined. the 64 CC car still used the 59 cowl. so they had to stamp a fender that would fit the cowl and the 64 nose. it's also shorter them a 64 car. same as the hood, they did this from 59 up
