'53 Ford service car update...

As some of you may know, our '53 Ford service car mysteriously stopped running at the beginning of August and had to be flat-bedded home 57 miles to finally get back in the garage. Since that time, we have discovered that the problem was the upper timing gear that just fell apart. It does not have a metal gear, but a rubber/fiber one. The rubber "gear" disintegrated, and came loose from what looks like a fiberglass sort of center. At any rate, a new metal gear has been ordered, and the car is torn apart to not only to do some badly needed detailing in the engine compartment, but also remove the oil pan to retrieve pieces of the gear. Here are a few pics of it's current progress.....gotta love those flatheads.

With the car that far apart, you might as well just pull the engine out and have all the room needed to do a 1st class detail job of the engine compartment.

For Steve....

What funeral home did this car originally belong to?

The car was originally purchased and owned by the Jenkins Funeral Chapel in Caledonia, NY. We have owner's cards from '53 into the mid sixties. I don't know if you have ever seen the car at any meets or anywhere else.....but here is what it usually looks like when it's not all tore apart.....

Yes, that thought had crossed our minds....it would be an easy possibility since Jim's garage has heat....we could take all winter to do it.
