40+ Ambulances stolen in Houston

Desperate to publish articles without researching first, yes.

Running, maybe. Those shown could not have been in current active service. More like relegated to backs of properties having been retired. :smileTEXAS:

Good thing for the tracking device, or these bums would have scrapped them all! But the thing that bothers me most, is the risk to human life for the sake of $500 to $700, truly mindboggling!

There are right at 400 private ambulance companies operating in the Houston/Harris County area. As of late 2011, 333 of these were under review by Medicare. A lot of these companies are one or two truck outfits that should not have ever been allowed to open except for free enterprise. Some are ok, some are a joke.

Seeing some of these units rolling around the metro area one would wonder how they manage to keep them on the road. There are too many providers and too few City and State inspectors.

All of these outfits use "EMS" as part of their name yet provide no "EMS" at all. They are strictly transfer units that call 911 if there is a true emergency.

This is one area where the Great State of Texas is not so great about controlling.

running or not running

It doesn't matter if these were running or not running units. A thief took them.
Now if a thief takes a running ambulance and the EMTs can't get me to a hospital in time and I die is the thief charged with murder?
Does anyone remember what they used to do to horse thieves in Texas?
Mike

they use to do the same thing on the east and west coast . but they stop long before Texas. so you nab one a day for a month and only get 500 bucks a day. sounds like decent wages to me. what is surprising is how one person can do this for that long and never get caught

took them to a scrap metal buyer on pinemont drive in houston. been there. they are the same ones who were buying school buses stolen from churches. if it looks wrong it probaly is wrong. and yes they should be hung, but the letter of the law is still the law and they were scrapping without titles as perscribed by texas law. and to be honest they were all units from a nigerian operation that opened here with your tax dollars given out by you no who. and none were currently in use and were taken over a few weeks not all at once. funny they all had insurance. wonder whats happening? friend of mine is a member of the gulf coast task force on organized crime and he told me it's all a inside job. bad company with bad people who make a dollar any way they can including fraud. they beleive any oppurtunity is just that, an oppurtunity, whether it's wrong or rite. and get this, one even said he was a cousin of obama. how did they get a million bucks to open up from uncle sugar? i wonder. dont fret, they were all ford vans with disels including mostly 6.0's so you know what kind of shape they were in. and all radios and ecquipment were missing. they were all bought used and had liens. i get it, do you?

Waiting for a modern day Paul Harvey to come out with" the rest of the story," someone said Texas use to hang horse thiefs, according to comedian Ron White,"while most states are banning the dealth penalty,Texas is putting in an express lane"stealing is stealing,my dad caught me once, just once, stood for a couple of days after that, too sore to sit and I had to do a days work to pay back the neighbor for the 1 apple I took, yes I learned,oh boy did I learn,,,:(

I would bet an ambulance that Kyle is right in his observations. Strip the rig, get cash for crush, report same rig stolen, collect insurance, open some other business. These are not 911 rigs being stolen. The last 911 truck that I know of that was stolen was pursued and the thief was shot by PD, she got to ride in a rig twice that day. Besides, with 400 private companies operating here no one is going to miss their Dr. appointment. There is probably a much better chance of a patient dying because one of the outfits showed up as opposed to them not showing up at all.

yeah thievin is up everywhere, with the metal market paying high scrap prices they are stealing everything. Even ifs its tied down. I have a small farm and gotta watch everyone around, since I'm home during the day and up all night, I keep an eye on my stuff and the neighbour behind me. Things are tuff all over.

yep, tuff all over

know what you mean herb. theives took my 5 ton ac unit from my car lot just for the copper. cameras caught them but police just made a report and handed me a case number. so much stolen metal here now that scrap buisnesses are thriving at our expense. a scrap metal buying place(i wont call them a dealer) here even took a lead lined radioactive vault from a seller and was on news only because a concerned citizen (dont know who) reported it to a tv station as police did nothing. RADIOACTIVE and did not know it could be stolen. yeah right. had the feds come out and they did nothing also. seems the law saying you must have id to sell scrap metal is up to interpetation. there id was a past receipt for selling scrap to them. but it did bring 450.00 for the crooks. havent heard anything since. probaly because its bad pr and they pay alot for tv spots. bruce probaly knows who im talking about as they pay in $2 bills.
