'39 Eureka LaSalle engine rebuild update

Tom Hoczyk

PCS Past President
The engine and transmission are completely rebuilt now, including new bearings in the manual transmission. The engine was taken on Saturday 10/30/10 to Bippus, and my friend Gene and I got very close to getting the engine into the car, but a couple personal obligations Saturday afternoon forced our time to be cut short. No hurry, want to do it right the first time. Tom

*embarrassed look* ummmmm......... no. But it looks like I will now, Ed. Thanks for the heads up. Tom

That's the funny thing about restoration work... Nobody sees the many hours of hard labor that's gone into it, but everyone notices the one item you missed!!

That is exactly why I didn't say anything about the starter when I first saw the picture. What Ed said about the flash picking up details that are unnoticed by the human eye under normal lighting is absolutely correct. I have photographed many parts of my car to find details that need attention, that don't present themselves under normal lighting.

I'm doing the work to make the car a reliable driver, not to be a prize winner. I've already nit-picked it to death 1000 times over, in the process of getting to where I am now. Not to mention that some people would not pay for a complete, gorgeous, driveable hearse what I already have in the engine and transmission alone. With every bolt that comes out, 10 things are discovered that need attention. I'll have to do lots of pondering before posting any more LaSalle pictures. Tom
