2013 Cadillac XTS limo

Cuz I don't know!how often do they replace the presidential limo,is there a set time,or criteria they go by. I am assuming only, this is handled by the secret service?or does the prez.have a say in it.Only because I am curious, also how long do they keep these and is there a protocol for retiring them (crusher).:smileflagcan:

It's my understanding it's tradition that each new president gets a brand new limo, and a new pilot for Air Force One. It's also my understanding the limo is completely scrapped after it's retired, they are no longer given to museums like the older ones used to be. :(

I don't know if there's a set time for replacing Presidential limos. But in the past, they have on occasion created a "new" looking limo by adapting some new parts on the old one, giving it an updated look. Since they are now fully custom built and not actually "Cadillac" cars, that's not hard to see happening. Older limos have been used for trips to foreign countries, or for transporting other dignitaries or additional Secret Service personnel. They are later probably used for driver training.

When they are truly done, rumor has it they go out to the range and federal law enforcement trainees use them for target practice.

we are after all a throw away society and only want something new. even it it works good old is just not right, it's old!!! the Queen still rides in a 100 plus year old carriage pulled by horses. here the man of the Hr has to get out of a new million dollar limo so he can walk in front of it. we would not have it any other way

As I have learned through the years, as Steve as stated, the presidential limousine is "retired" after each president (either crushed or blown up as Steve has mentioned). I am very saddened by what happens to them after they are retired, but I totally understand.

Many years ago, the threat of terrorist activity or actual threat to the President himself were limited. Today, these threats are real and must me addressed. The presidential limos are destroyed because the Secret Service doesn't want any of their "secrets" to be exposed. The president must be protected (weather you voted for him or not :smiley3: ) even if it means destroying the ways of protection every 4 years with the destruction of the limousine.

Hmmm... such a double sided sword... To save the limousine or not!

The President rode in a Suburban when he visited Las Vegas a couple of weeks ago.
Yeah, President Bush came to our little town of Mt. Airy a few years ago, and he also rode in a Suburban. The VP also rides in a Suburban, and I saw that at the airport last year. Got to look over it, interesting (I can't tell you what I saw, shhhh! ;))

pres limo

hey something i know about. retired pres. limos are blown up by the secret service. they are taken and subjected to mines, rpg's and small arms fire. any weak spots are addressed in the next build. they are never sold to the public so they cannot be reverse enjineered to find a weak spot. my ex-neighbor was a secret service agent here in houston and he schooled me on the limos. quick story.... during pres. bush term[first one] i was called on a sunday at my home by my nighbor [ the secret service agent] who said, " hey kyle, i need you to come to elington field and pick up the presidents limo.[with one of my wreckers]. i laughed and thought he was kidding so i hung up but he called back and i sort of beleived him so i went to the office and picked up a wrecker and and went to a location were i was to be met by a hpd cruiser and be escorted to ellington field, well my buddy i called to go with me, and i went and guess what? it was for real?? was escorted to field and limo was parked by the ready fighter[missles on the rail, plugged to starting cart, ready to roll. guarded by a air force airmen loaded for bear also. i was the only one allowed into enclosure and when i picked up the limo i creased both back quarters were the roofline met the quarter panel. i was scared thougt i just bought a limo. well it seems they all did that and i was not held responsible.took it a dealership here under full escort with secret service and hpd, sherriff. got to look over limo and set in back seat. what an experience... oh yeah, billed sec, serv. and got paid. true story...

Our Queen still rides in a 10 year old Bentley...... she was in it yesterday on her way to the Derby

God save our Queen

Tony Blair..... or anyone out here in CA seen what our Governor Jerry "Moonbeam" Brown rides in? When Arnold was Governor, they had him riding in all Black Expeditions's with a CHP Offcer Driver, Wingman and a motorcycle escort when close to and leaving events. (*) When Jerry Brown was Governor the last time around he drove (himself) in a "three on a tree" slant six blue Plymouth Satelitte with roll-up windows and no A/C.... how times have changed! MM

THANKS TONY!! That brings back a lot of old memories. One time during his 1st time as Governor, we had 20+ pieces of heavy equipment and trucks doing 7/24 flood control work for the Cochella Valley Water District / Riverside County. We heard that Gov. Brown was coming to the ICP at 1100 one day. Assuming we would see at least a small motorcade arrive.... he chose to drive the Blue Plymouth (himself) from LA with No Assistant, No CHP, No Riverside "SO"... just him.... kind of a let down! MM
