2013 Accubuilt hearses

Thursday I stopped to see Ellis Galyon at Ambulance & Funeral Coach sales in Nashville. They had just recieved a 2013 S&S white and 2013 Superior black Cadillacs. Wayne Justice showed me both and I was less than impressed with these cars than I have ever been. Embarrassing is the first word that came out of my mouth to Wayne. I appologized but he said he understood without agreeing. These are the ugliest cars I have ever seen manufactured for resale! Too much headroom, a top that nearly comes to a point and a very funky back door. It has a rear glass that is larger than any mini van or suburban rear glass and it is tinted to the point where your nameplate would not show through. Not a lot of fancy trim in the rear. I was too shocked to sit in the drivers compartment. A total let down. For lack of a better description, it is in the shape of a door stop. On a better note, he had a 2013 Lincoln S&S. It has straight sides and almost appears to be a commercial glass car. It's look is far more traditional than the Cadillac from the front and side with tons of room inside. It did have the Lincoln back door wich is too tricked out for me but it was decent looking enough that I wouldn't have any problem using one. Until someone decides to design a hearse and stay in the proportions of the original car, we are reduced to using crap for our services. All cars are designed with way too much head room in the back because you would have to have a casket piece two feet tall before you knocked it off and I have never had one that tall. Someone should have told the designers that we are not using these as ambulances anymore. Very sad to say the least.

:beatdeadhorse5:

Curious to see one.. We own a 2011 Masterpiece and the headroom is quite practical when you have a bigger casket spray. Even if you have a styled one with 2f high you don't scratch your headliner. Maybe the designers took the measurements of a casket with the church truck haha :D

is this what you mean ?

putting two accubuilt photos in here.....

Abortion

That thing is a styling abortion. The people who designed it should go work at Walmart because they are abject failures as automotive designers. I promise you I will refurbish the cars I have or I will buy a Suburban and put some panels in the windows but I will NEVER drive anyone to the cemetery in a grotesque looking butchered automobile like that. And from the conversations I have had at least half my colleagues in the industry feel the same way.

better get one while you can in 30 years they will be like 59's vary limited and highly sought over. that is if the electronics will hold up to 30 years. I don't think they will

A surburban with panels would be much more attractive! I think the time has come to move all the funeral cars to a surburban chassie if this is the alternative (atleast where GM is concerned.) It seems the Lincoln looks alittle better!

Im of the opinion that the Cadillac is better looking than the Lincoln but I think Brady is right on with his thoughts on refurbishing the older coaches. I was on the freeway today behind a 2010-11 S&S Masterpiece and it was a dignified looking coach. The 94-96 Cadillacs are beautiful cars & anyone with one of those would be money ahead to re-do those cars intead of spending $90,000 plus to buy one of the current choices. I still say that the chrysler 300 would be a decent platform to convert though.

Is 2011 was the last year of the chrome and white walls on the S&S Masterpieces? Those 2013 looks more like a larger SUV than an hearse... No style.

Here is a shot of our fleet 3 weeks ago, our winter look have no white walls so around mai 1st I can't wait to install the summer tires with the white walls. Much better looking for the 2011s.

Does anyone at Accubuilt know or care about our opinions here? I have not heard anyone who likes the rolling eyesores they are producing!

They probably don't care much what we say here. But decisions are made with the checkbook. If buyers don't buy them, the coachbuilders will get the message, loud and clear.

The rear door hinge in the photo reminds me of the door hinges on my old Matchbox cars!

looking out the upper story window at then new cars out there and I was struck with the same thought. they all look like matchbox same wheels and all.

From a styling perspective, these new Accubuilt Cadillacs (and Lincolns as well) are a disaster. But, so too are the Eagles and Federals. They are all too long and too high without and balance. These companies are playing an gotcha by inches game - if one has a wheelbase of 157-inches, the other goes to 158 to better the competition. It's stupid and completely unnecessary. They do this without lengthening the rear side doors to compensate for the extra length and then end up with abortions such as seen here. A wheelbase of 145-150-inches is adequate with a rear floor length of 109-112 inches and in inside height of 39-42 inches. That's all that's really required. Those "styling" these current cars don't have a clue nor, it would appear, any taste in automotive design. While they're all ugly and resemble mobile door stops, the new ones from "Armbruster Stageway" are shorter with a just a hint of design balance to them.

This is the only one I saw that I ALMOST liked. At least the roof line is better. I'm guessing this is the prototype that never came to fruition? Do the other XTS offerings have this lower sleek roof line?

I agree, the problem is, this hearse was developed by Cadillac and not a coach builder. Not sure who built it for GM, but it was the best looking at the convention.

Here are some pictures of the Accubuilt design from the front and side to give you an idea of the roof line.
