1972 ambulance snapshot

I was doing some research on the history of emergency ambulance service and came across a listing of every ambulance service in a multi-county region in southeastern Ohio in 1972. It provides detailed information on exactly what each funeral home was operating at the time, including the equipment they carried. At the time, 33 funeral homes provided over 80% of all ambulance service in the region. Thought some of you might find it interesting to see a snapshot of what rural funeral homes were running in 1972. Of course, I'm a bit of a nerd, so.....

I wondered what the "Trade & Industrial Emergency Victim Care Course" was.

Manual is digitized and at http://files.eric.ed.gov/fulltext/ED016769.pdf

Lots of great photos and info! Even one from Canton FD that was posted here previously.

Somewhere around here, I've got at least one copy of the Ohio T & I EMT book and a copy/copies of the Ohio T & I Fire Training book(s) from the late 60's or early 70's. I'm pretty sure I've still got some of the EMT shoulder patches that they issued. I'll see if Barb is up for a "search party" tomorrow.

Neat!

I've got a copy of the 1959 manual. It was reprinted 1960 & 1961. The pictures are fantastic. It's a great source for what was stocked in those days. Those squadmen were expected to know quite a bit.

My First

Emergency Victim Care was the text book for the EMT training in Ohio published by the Ohio Trade & Industrial Commission before EMS was transferred to the Ohio Dept. of Public Safety. I still have my book and a patch from it. The year was 1976

Barb found several of these in a mixed box of shoulder patches from various agencies and states. The books still elude the search party.
