1970 S&S Park Row Combination

Ok Mr. Loftin, Mr. Karsnia, and anyone else, does anyone have any pics of a 1970 S&S Park Row Combination, or even a 69? I have looked all through my picture collection, and all over the net, and cant seem to find any. I found a bunch of ambulances and streight hearses, but no combos. I would like to see exterior, and interior pics if you have them. Thank you in advance.:thankyou2:

I'll give that some thought too, Josh. S&S coaches of that vintage were not as common in these parts as say M-M, Superior, and C/B. I'm thinking I might have one on Kodachrome (slide) film, so please be patient while I look for it.

Still looking for the Holland Criterion too, of which I have a color slide...someplace!
 
I'm trying to figure out if the section between the top of the doors and rear quarter windows, and the drip rail, is suppose to match the botum of the car, or the roof. On mine, that section is painted to match the botum of the car, and has a tape line running from the top rear corner of the quarter window, to the drip rail. On my superior that section is supose to match the roof color. I'd also like to see some rear interior shots. Plus, I'm just wanting to see some pics of other cars like mine.

I'm starting to think they weren't as common anywhere. I've ben searching for months trying to find any pics of a car like mine, and keep coming up empty handed. But if it were a 70 S&S straight ambulance, or straight hearse, there are plenty of pics around of those for some reason.

Anyone know how many Park Row's were built in 1970?

I photographed this Park Row on Spitler's lot (Montoursville, PA) in 1982. Note how the entire upper body is the same color. The third car over is a Victoria; note how the portion above the windows matches the lower body.

The customer could have it any way they wanted, but usually the section above the windows matched the lower body color on the Park Hill and Victoria models, as seen on this unidentified combination from Pennsylvania.

The lowtop Parkway ambulances of this era, however, were another story. Most of the two-tone versions I've seen had the lower body color all the way up to the drip rail, as seen on this '65 from the Carsonville Fire Co. (Halifax, PA).

Note the unusual lighted roof sign...factory? Aftermarket?

(Don't tell Paul what brand the beacon is; he'll think I posted the photo just for him!)

Thats what confused me, sence my drip rail runs all the way back like the one in the first pic, I was wondering between the top of the side windows and the drip rail, why wouldn't it have ben painted black like the rest of the roof.

What are you calling a "tape line?"
 
Where the white and the black sepporate, you can see a line where they taped it when they painted the car. You would think they would have painted the section between the side windows and the drip rail black like the roof. I just wasn't sure if that was factory or if it was something someone else did. Heres a pic from before I bought it, I haven't had a chance to clean it up and take some better pics sence i got it home. But at least its inside and out of the wether now.

1970 Park Hill combination

Here's what I could find so far, Josh. I don't have any information of ownership, history, etc. on this one.

Notice that even though this Park Hill has the S&S cobra vinyl on the roof, the landau panels are painted. It also appears to have two "plugs" in the roof, indicating that it is set up to accomodate dual beacons.

Regarding your question about paint schemes, my guess is this: S&S wanted to somehow highlight the vinyl on their vinyl-topped cars (Park Hill, Victoria), so the drip rail made a good separation point. While it was ok to paint the tops of the doors (and above the rear quarter windows) the roof color on a Park Row (which had no viny roof), the units with vinyl received the body color above the windows, thus making the formal look of the vinyl top stand out more, regardless if the car was a solid color or two-tone.

I have seen Danny's S&S in person, And I have to say, I really like it. I can't wait to see it when it gets out of the body shop. I wish mine had removable landau panels.
