1970 ambulance wheelbase question

Hi all,
Im new to PCS forum. I was wondering if anyone knows the wheelbase of a 1970 Cadillac Superior ambulance? I just bought it (hasnt arrived by shipping yet) but I know it needs a frame. Does 159" sound correct?

Any help is greatly appreciated and thanks for having me here.

Hello Rob amd WELCOME to the site !!!

CONGRATULATIONS on your new 70 Superior !!:applause:
I see you are located in the Denver area.....did you but it local ?
Your post quickly got my attention,to say the least......I have also just purchased a 70 a couple of weeks ago in Colorado.....It is near Grand Junction...I have not been able to get a shipper as of yet........ to bring it to California.....but once its here it will join my other 70 and my 72 (Superiors)......
When I saw the post I thought the seller re-SOLD it again to someone else !!:4_11_9:

On your question about wheelbase I believe it is 156.0".......if I remember correctly.............

Good luck and enjoy your new "toy"....:thumb:

Hi Jim
Wow you have quite the collection. I bought mine from a guy in Texas. The car is located in Peyton Colorado now at a friends house until I move into my new place - which I hope is soon.
I went to bid transporting site and paid 800.00 to have it shipped from Texas to Colorado. They cost so much because of their size. I believe A1 transport was the name of the company that had the lowest bid. They were great and everything worked out fine.

Be sure and put some pics up!

Well $800 is not too bad.......I currently have it with the same broker as I had to move my 72 from Boston area to Calif....($825.00)but they have had it now for 9 days and not having much luck...so I think I will up the ante a bit and see if we can snag driver then......Its only a 900 mile trip but located in a small town.......I am even thinking of getting it myself....I just found access to a 10000lbs trailer.....and I have a F250 Powerstroke...so may me heading for a road trip....
I will post pictures when I get the rig........
Good luck to you as well......
Jim

Just wanted to CLARIFY...the move from Boston area was NOT $825(I wish)....
The quote FROM Colorado to Calif is currently $825......but soon to be more I think....:pat:

Well it appears that at some point the car was fork lifted and it crushed the frame on the spots where it made contact with the forks. I MAY be able to get it cut and welded but I am not sure. Either way I cant wait to dig into this car and get to know it :)

A good frame shop should be able to repair the damage without replacing a section of frame. Look for a place that does trucks, since they have the knowledge and experience to do frame repair without heating the metal...

It does have alot of rot on it - I think thats why the frame gave so easily. I close on the new place around Christmas time - it has a double deep garage that the ambulance will call home while I go through it. I will post pics once we get in and get 'er all settled. Thanks again man.

the exchange book only list 70 as exchanging. so I would have a frame shop look it over well. it may be that one can section it if it's confined to one place. if not your looking for a 70 commercial chassis frame. it would have to be off a Hearse, ambulance or combo. I believe that the fleetwood 75 is the same but can't swear as to the suspension being the same as the Commercial chassis. let us know what you find when you can get a good look at it.
