Really neat looking old Ford, odd box-style body. Owner lists it as a former ambulance and it looks like it has/had dual tunnel lights up front and ditch lights down the sides.

Many rescue trucks of that era were designed with transport capability. More for last resort / mass casualty use.

At our fire department we ran the Gerstenslager trucks as ambulances, but they only responded to auto accidents. The Cadillac ambulances were used for house calls. The bigger trucks were used to transport numerous patients.

The truck in Dwayne's post is almost certainly a Gerstenslager. Dad had a '59 Gerstenslager Ford that had a similar body (though it was on a truck chassis with a hood, not a step-van-style chassis).

As stated, many of these were built as rescue squads, with transport capability.
