1958 Edsel Amblewagon Rear Glass

A friend of mine just obtained a 58 Edsel Amblewagon and the rear loading door glass is gone. Anyone know if this is flat glass or if anything else will work?

Is his Edsel Amblewagon black by some chance? As for the window, can you get some dimensions form the opening? That is the best chance of figuring out what will work. You will need hight at the extreme right or left end, hight at the middle, and length at the top and bottom. Also, is the glass clear or tinted, not that it will make much of a difference, because you kind of have to take what you can find.

a cross check corner to corner also. as it might be tapered. then of course we have to ask was it the one piece door or the two pieces like a normal station wagon. they would do them either way.

It has the one piece fiberglass hearse style rear loading door. It is a white car that one served in the Granite, OK area. It also has nameplate mounting holes on the outside of the rear doors.

so if it's one of these we are looking for it would appear to me to be flat glass. set in the a standard locking rubber grommet. any automotive glass shop should be able to help on that one. ask for a safety plate not the safety sheet as it thicker. if it is curved figuring out what they used would be a challenge. if I was faced with the what now on it I would have one cut out of Lexan not Plexiglas. that will do the curve nicely and hold up well.

to determine if it's flat our not lay a straight edge on the flange.
