1957 Chevrolet National

Does anyone have background information on the 1957 Chevrolet hearse made by National or the one by Comet? Is there a special chassis on it - does it have a X-brace? Thanks.

the one by comet was on a standard 57 chassis. called a comet jr. I don't recall seeing a extended chassis by them. national would split the standard chassis and extend them. the x frame did not come out till 58 on the Chevy line. neither comet or national built on a GM commercial chassis.

Yes, I am familiar with '58 but on some diecast miniatures of the Nation version they show a X brace on he perimeter chassis like used on the convertible model or on other GM cars for 1957. Being the frame was stretched 30" wonder how they reinforced that since Chevy's chassis was not very sturdy?

you asking a specific question on a vary small number of cars. I have seen one 57 comet Jr. is was a stranded frame and one 57 National on a stretched frame. both started out as a Chevy. I did not crawl under either one. I have not seen any stretched frames with a added X brace under it. but it was not uncommon for the aftermarket builders to use a incomplete convertible as the starting car. no top to toss and it was a heaver frame to began with. so yes it's possible that national did at least a few of them. but the die cast people will and often do use a lot of artist licence when producing there modals.
