1955 Barnett Chevy

55 Chevy Ambulance

I saw this ambulance in a publication this year before Milwaukee. I talked to Mr Harrison invited him to the meet in Milwaukee, also President Steinberg sent him info about PCS along with a then current magazine. He knows about PCS, I would like to see this car.:thumb:

the other pictures I have on the set I posted shows it with the rack in. it shows the Barnette script were they loved to put it but you never see enough to the red and white one to see any script. the shape of the door opening though is the same. it may be the only Barnette surviver out there. you will notice this one has door handles on the center doors. there are how ever a number of the tri 5 chevy nationals out and about.

Looks like there is a Barnette script on a red background in the center of the grill.

Never noticed the grille script before. It sure is a Barnette. it just looked like more like a Weller to me, but not quite, that's what confused me for so many years. Now I can finally label the pix right.

I would bet the script got moved when the interior was redone. if there was one on the out side they liked to put them by the front door under the body crease. they liked that location. sometimes on the door sometimes on the fender. then some years nothing on the out side. but it's nice to see it still is around.

Seems a little odd to me that a professional stretched full-ambulance conversion by a known manufacturer would lack a partition and medical cabinetry. I suspect more than the interior color was changed during the restoration.......perhaps something was left out? On the other hand, the forward underfloor compartment appears to go right up to the back of the front seat (at least in the photo), so who knows. I guess it could have been ordered that way.

Either that, of it was missing when this owner got it. We all know how many of these great cars were butchered by someone.
I like the comment "its not a hearse, did you ever see a white hearse?"
I know I have, Ive seen them more than any other color :D
