1954 Pontiac Service car

Thanks Peter for the post. Can someone say what it is? Not a sedan delivery, with the windows, no specific interior. Thanks in advance.

I think as I said a service car meaning first call or removal coach. Henney made these I have one. It is a very plain (vis cheap) hearse but was not used for funerals you don not see them today to big $$$ mini van is cheaper.

what it is is a 53 body with a 54 nose and 54 Chevy taillights. Pontiac did not make a 54 sedan delivery. only a wagon and it has a way different body. now thats not to say what was made and sold up in Canada. I have seen one more picture of one with this nose and the delivery body

Ed; Take note to top rear of front door rounded as sedan delivery not squared as sedan. VIN number in ad is not correct could be motor number as many in that era were titled by motor number. My book that has that info is among the missing if someone has a book we may learn more. Tail lights are 54 Chev. sedan but they interchange mount wise with wagon lights so who knows perhaps a retro fit. Your Canada idea is a good one I will check in that direction.

Canada theory just fell apart Canadian Pontiacs had Chevrolet chassis and running gear only Pontiac trim. Look at U tube video and its a flathead Pontiac six not OHV Chevrolet six. Seems to run good in video. So debate goes on.

no debate 1953 is the last year Pontiac produced a sedan delivery. but a 54 nose would go on the 53 body. off either a car or a wagon. i cant say with Pontiac but the 54 year was when all the OHV v8 went in the cars.

but looking at the video thats not a poncho body. it a Chevy body look were the gas cap filler is. that not a poncho fire wall the regulate is were the defroster is and the heater on a Pontiac was a under seat one. then the poncho doesn't have the ribs coming down. it's a two door stretch missing side trim.
so unless in 54 they offered a pon sedan delivery up there it been made up from a Chevy body. the nose would interchange that way also.

A photo of the trim tag and the VIN will go a long way to determining this vehicles pedigree.

ok I think this will clear it up the vin number listed in the auction is VIN (Vehicle Identification Number): 4227120942

so by comparing pictures you can clearly see this is a 1954 Chevy with a Pon hood, front trim and Pon dash.

so one can make the assumption that in Canada they continued sell a Pontiac sedan delivery at least threw 54 and maybe farther.

then as the man stated in the auction this is indeed a rare bird with the stretch

Unfortunately, "rarity" and "desirability" have nothing to do with one another. He is going to have a tough time getting the money that he hopes to achieve on this one.

A couple of things here, in Canada the Pontiacs made in Canada were no more than trimmed up Chevrolets. The front sheet metal would fit a Chevrolet but not a USA Pontiac too short. I have checked one of the Pontiac websites and copy paste the following." The sedan deliveries that were sold in the US were actually buillt in Canada using Pontiac engines and drivetrain. " Plus noting the cowl has two braces one on each side this is Chevrolet (in USA) and Canada not USA Pontiac. So it seems YES this is a 1954 Canadian built Sedan Delivery modified perhaps stretched from the space in front of the fan in the video the six was all you could get as there does not seem to be room for the longer eight. This means the front sheet metal although 54 Pontiac is 54 Canadian Pontiac (shorter cause Chevrolet frame) and it would seem the Pontiac six fit well whereas the Chevrolet was in the sedans. Lastly a blip in one of the Pontiac web sites states the sedan delivery was built till 1958 (never sawone).

53 was the last Pontiac sedan delivery in the US of A there were some were around 1600 of them built as I recall. as you can see by the pictures I posted the fenders on this one are Chevy along with the headlight bezels that match up with the crease in the fender. if you compare park lights you can see were the grill is Pon the lights are Chevy.

now then the real mystery is who stretched it as it had to have been on of the plants up there

is any one near this one? the price is OK for a complete car. but the cost of shipping will double the price for me.
