1949 chevy hearse ambulance

when I was growing up the fire department in my home town had a 1949 Chevy ambulance was inservice until 1968 and was replaced by a 1964 Pontiac which was the first ambulance I worked out of

they are so much narrower then the caddy that it looks like a big packing tube. but parts should be easy enough to get. it would depend of what is left inside weather or not it was worth restoring. any Ida the builder?

Converted from a Chevrolet Sedan delivery this could have been the work of any one of a number of conversion houses that thrived at the time. However, in comparing what details can be seen on this car to some factory photos of similar units I believe that this very well may be a product of Guy Barnette & Company of Memphis. The curved shape of the rear door window frames and the drip molding match that of a Chevrolet of the same vintage seen in a Barnette factory photo. There's also a piece of Barnette literature here that gives the wheelbase as 151". The vehicle was offered as a funeral coach, a combination car and as an ambulance. Again, I'm thinking that ths may very well be a Barnette.

my thoughts also. the drip rail and corners on the doors. the black one pictures in his add is a National and even with the poor snag ed pictures you can see differences. but then the barnette should have a tag below the molding by the back edge of the fender. don't see any evidence of it being there.
