1939 New York World's Fair Ambulance

That's really cool! I was aware that Flxible supplied a fleet of 1938, 1939 and 1940 Buick, LaSalle and Cadillac ambulances as the "Fair's Official Ambulances" but, didn't know anything about the fire engines. Thanks for posting this fascinating material.

That Ahrens Fox Piston Pumper is quite a rig. I am confused, however, by the "1949" date that crops up in a couple of places. While looking at this site, wander over to the railroad area and look at engine 6100, the one-off streamlined 6-4-4-6 ( wheel arrangement ) locomotive lettered "American Railroads." This was a Pennsylvania R.R. experimental passenger loco styled by Raymond Loewy that had 7 ft. tall drivers, and a rigid wheelbase so long that she couldn't handle some of the curves, so she spent her brief working life running between Crestline, OH, and Chicago, from 1941-'45. Stall number 30 at the Crestline roundhouse had to be lengthened to hold her, and a special wye track installed to turn her, as she would not fit on the turntable. Today, the special stall survives, tho most of the roundhouse is gone. This is about 5 miles north of my residence in Galion. The PRR men called her simply the "Big Engine."

My parents took my sister and me to the 1964-1965 NY World's Fair. Are there any photographs of the ambulances or fire trucks stationed there? Tom

64-65 New York World's Fair

Tom,
I went to google and typed in New York World's Fair. There are vintage pictures there of the 64-65 fair. I did not go through all of them, yet.
Hope you see something you like.
Mike

Let me know if you find a picture of my 1964 Chevrolet Corvair Spyder Coupe. I was told that it was on display on a rotating table.
