1000 dollar cabnet

we picked up a old steel cabinet from Attila for 100 bucks. Steve took it to Ohio for us and we carried it home from there. it was a OK buy but needed a little TLC. so this is what a 100 dollar cabinet looks like 1000 bucks later. the biggest expense on this one was the re plating the top rail. that ran 360. two quarts of paint and catalyst thinner primer and paper blasting media new hinges and latches and polish. I figure we have 40 hr in cleaning disassembly refinishing and reassembly. we still have to drill holes in the new upholstery and hang it in the car. maybe tomorrow.

But is is done and it is done right. Looks great Ed & Brendan.

it's never done and right is a matter of interpretation. the combination of old and new parts makes it a usable fixture in the car. originally or later added on ??? the strap was looped so one bottle went loosely behind and the others could be held in place. the webbing was rotted and I could not locate anything similar
so the nylon and plastic clip will hold one bottle tight. should make a good display with a set of big gages that look like Micky mouse ears sticking out. Brendon had all ready bought the rubber for the floor storage compartment and these were the scraps left over form that. I could not resist covering the floor and shelves with them. superior probably never did.

did we get a grand in this cabinet. if you had just brought it in and said do it yes. but in reality with doing the car and things all ready brought we got about 5 in it and a extra week. but it will really add to the look of the car.

there is a set of holes in the front wall all ready but only one will match up. to the holes in the cabinet. most likly they were drilled by hand and added after it was built so each car would be off just a little. we get it in and I'll post a pictures then. right now we got to go prep for my colon test tomorrow. the dr found out I was doing this kind of work and they want to see if they can find my head.

Plating

Ed,
I couldn't believe that you paid $360. to have the rails and stanchions chromed. We could have had it done here for less than $200. If you have a piece or two that you would like to send out to test, please feel free. Our work is done in Mexico and they don't have the EPA to contend with, nor are their labor costs as high.

Wdw! What a difference a talented man, an extra week and a G-Note can make! That cabinet looks fabulous!

Yeah, that's what I'm talkin' about! I saw it in my mind's eye when Attila passed the cabinet to me to deliver to Ed in Ohio - that's just what I thought it would look like when it was done. You have to be able to see the "diamond in the rough". It was rough, but it was all there. Good work, Ed!

Money? Can't live with it, can't live without it...
