been having a problem with the Pinner, it would stumble under load. had the carb rebuilt and set the timing it ran better but still a slight hesitation under load. went to take it to the store for more pink anti freeze for the 96 and got on it going up the hill. it quit me at the top. would start not run. pump the gas and crank it would start but not run. bet we did that 20 times. it started every time and died. so Jack and I walked home. all most got attacked by the herd of deer as we walked by. those does are death on small dogs. skirted the turkeys without any problems got the truck and 5 gl of gas and dumped that in the tank just in case. same thing. so with the help of my next-door neighbor, we towed it back home. Do you know how many steps you have to take to get it up in the garage with the jeep if you can only move the jeep two lengths at a time? but we did it. the fuel pump is out. It's only moving a small amount now. it was 50 deg. out today, but the bottom is to drop out tonight, and they're using the snow in large amounts threat. so getting it inside to get it fixed is in order. we ran the tow rope and chains through the walk-in door to pull it into the garage. I was not going to try to push it in. I'm tired of doing body work on that oneIMG_2019.JPGIMG_2020.JPG

To me, it sounds like it is a defective starter switch, and when you let off the key, the connection from the starter to the coil drops off. Put a jumper on the positive terminal to the positive terminal of the coil and see if it will stay running. If it does, post back and I will help you further.

That was my thinking also. We try that one now that it's inside. Did check the cap thing and the vent works. Just stumbled over why only going uphill and at a steady speed. Does it stumble? Driving it around town all you want it does well. But this is the first she has quit and restarted so my thoughts were "got you".

That's why I had the carburetor rebuilt. When I cracked the fuel line it was holding pressure. So I figured it had to be good. Yesterday there was nothing And I can't get but trickle out when cranking. the new pump will be in tomorrow. But still thinking of the possibility of an electoral problem. It has a new switch in already. But there are old points cap and coil left.

This one is the bronze one. Fuel tank and pickup are new as is half the fuel line. But i think the pump was the one off the engine. Don't want to get started swapping things too fast right now till I know the fuel and delivery date system is good. This pump comes in today and I see it fill up the jug I know that system is good. Then the snow goes off the road we can run it up the hill again if that clears it up. The carb rebuild helped a lot so that was a good thing but not the main reason for the stumble. The shake-down time gets interesting. This one has sat for a long time.

So got it out today same problem. Next is to see what volume the pump is puting out. I can hold the brake and run the engine up till it levels out and it doesn't stall let it drop to idle rapidly and it doesn't stall. So far it's still a mystery.

Might be a worn camshaft lobe that drives the fuel pump.

My fear, but i'm going to change that front half of the fuel line before I go electric. With the rust on this car it could be restricted just enough. Says the drowing man grasping at straws

Got a fuel line kit coming from in-line we will change that first. They say it's 3/8 line but this one up front doesn't look over 1/4. About the same price as an electric one. If it doesn't help at least i know its good.
