My 1970 M&M CFD car is starting to look like something.

One thing is for sure, They come apart a lot easier than the go back together. The car is finally starting to look like something. I still am waiting for some chrome to come back from the chrome shop. I am finishing up buffing the stainless parts that have not been installed as of yet. The Glass company will be here this coming Monday to set the new windshield. This will allow me to install the windshield trim and twinn spotlights. Soon, the body will be back together and looking good. The next step is the graphics. I had the Graphics guys out last week taking measurements. When the graphics arrive I can install them. The car is slated to go to the trim shop in November so the headliner, upholstery and the front flooring can be redone. I am still on the hunt for the elusive Armstrong Colonial Classic vinyl flooring for the patient compartment. I may have to settle for something close until I find some correct flooring, hopefully not. The mechanic end of the car was all gone through before we started the paint. I will most likely have some tweaking to do on the mechanical end when all the cosmetic stuff is is done. The electrical is complete and works like factory with the exception of the ventilator fan on the roof. I will be installing and wiring a new ventilator fan soon, it will need to be in before it goes to the trim shop. The master switch box in the car did not have enough switches so I had to swap the switch box for one with more switches. I also had to use some unused fuse circuits in the factory fuse box.

Attached are some photos of the car as it looks now.

Bruce: Just curious as I have never been around a CFD Fire Engine or Ambulance... does the GREEN Light flash and is the opposite side RED steady or flashing? Is "Sgt Greg" doing the graphics? All of your re-creations are PERFECT! MM

Yes the green and red flash alternatly I have been in touch with the folks at the Chicago Fire Department museum, they have expressed interest in seeing the car, I really have to thank Tom Nangle for introducing me to the museum people. "Sgt. Greg" has been out helping and we are awaiting the Graphics soon. The graphics are from the museum people. The problem is; the 40 year old stickers are too old and won't work. We are only using them as templates.

I just noticed that in the above pictures, it looks like the red and green lights are on steady and simaltaniously. They do flash alternatly. It must be that the camera is fast and making it look like the stay on steady in the pics.

Looking great!! But its a M-M not M&M, just sayin'
What shade of red is that? On my computer it has a slight pinkish tint to it, even compaired to the truck in the background. Im just curious if that is the color, or the camera dont pick up the shade correctly, I know they can do that sometimes.

It show more in pictures but there definatly is a pinkish in the color. The car is painted Balerro Red which is the color that CFD ordered them in. The lower color of this car was ordered from M-M in Barerro Red as well.

The proper spelling of M-M is noted, but I still say M&M when it is spoken

That car is looking good! You also have quite a nice collection of ambulances, just like Mr Lichtman, Mr Devies, Mr Steinberg, Mr Renstrom, Mr Taylor and I am certain that I left out a bunch of names. I am starting to feel left out of the fun.

Bruce....She is looking AWESOME !!!!
VERY beautiful ambulance !!
I also think that GS with the ball is nice looking...(I have a couple of my own).....thay are GREAT !!
You mentioned "switchbox" would that be the box that sits on the dash ??, you needed to change out for one with more switches...
If you are not needing the other one ..I would be interested on buying it from you for my 70 Rescuer......
again GREAT JOB !! so far !!!

It seems like since the movie "Backdraft" black and red is the new color,I know here in Woodstock,Ont all new fire vehicles are now black top red bottom, but that ambulance is superb, thanks for sharing..

Thanks,
The switches in my M-M are in the headliner but the M-M swithces are different from Superior. Mine would not be right for your Superior. Superior did have overhead switches but they are different then M-M. A Dash pod was offered for Superior and M-M but again they are different.

Bruce, that's looking really good!

Bill, you could have a nice collection of ambulances, you've bought many over the years. It's just that you keep selling them! :twak:

Thanks Steve, I have had a few nice ones that I regret selling, that is true. But, I don't have much garage space, so although there were times that I owned multiple cars and I was renting garages, I currently only have space for one car. And if that one car is a procar, it has to be a short wheelbase, or it won't fit. Sure I have made money selling and I do like to change cars, but actually it is also a matter of being practical, at least for now. For the record, being practical sucks!!
