Old Byrd car?

So far it seems like the PCS groan function just applies to the post,or the poster, but if I could,I'd groan at the treatment of this car.:(

Shawn Koenig has posted at least a couple different shots of that '62 Superior on FB.
Yup, me and friend have a bunch of pictures of this car. Unfortunately we didnt get any history on the car, mainly because it was mere hours before the big storm back in October was about to hit our area, and its at a haunted house/hayride so good chance the owner only knew the where he got it anyway, since its just a prop now. Use to sit out near the ticket booth about 5 years ago, not sure when but as of at least last October it now sits along the hayride trail. And thats about all I know.

I wonder if it is rotted out.

Sure looks like a nice car, or was a nice car.

All the lights and siren are still there too.

Someone needs to take a good look at it.

The GB logo doesn't need to stay either.

Many of us have saved cars, restored them, and shown them at PCS meets.

This one has unfortunately gone in a reverse direction, as it was once an award-winning car at PCS meets (having been saved and preserved in 1984 by Mr. John Hadley of Marietta, Ohio) and now it looks like this.

Sadly, I think I've found the answer:

Well, perhaps I haven't. The Hadley/Byrd car, photographed (below) in 1989, had original (or reproduction) rear window decals. It also had a 1950's #67R siren with a Propello Ray light and standard Federal flat mounting bracket.

(SL photo)

In contrast, the car on Facebook has window decals that are from a '61 Superior. It also has what appears to be a period correct C6, with a Solar Ray, on a Superior mounting bracket. It doesn't have the front roof sign, but does have a taller partition cabinet than the other car.

Both cars have curbside hanging hardware, dual spotlights, and many other similar features.

I love a mystery...!

The McIntire F.H. in Wooster, OH had a car like this at one time. Below is the front of one of their old pocket calendars from my collection. They're still in business, and still in that wonderful old building:

Note both ambulances also have full length skeg moldings. In '61-'62, Superior also used short skegs.

Wouldn't a '62 with '61 front bumper/grill have been a more logical proposed question? :p

It looks to me like a 62 with the correct front and rear bumpers. As to the 61 decals.....a thing to remember.....coachbuilders used excess stock on new model years. If this is an early production 62 the previous year decals could of been used. Early and late VIN# procars especially in the late 60's/ early 70's were fascinating with what they would use ( carry over parts) I don think this was the Hadley car.

one hast west coast type mirrors the other doesnt so unless they were changed out as some point doesnt look to be the same car to me.

Rear view mirrors are also different. The "Ecto" has west coast truck style mirrors while the car at the show has standard style.

If that car is used at a haunted hoouse, as a prop, then offer a trade. A perfect trade would be my 63 Superior Limo style parts car. Its black, and fits the bill.

Generally, folks dont car about the car, just the imprint on their business.

I heard back from Jay Byrd today. He says that the 1962 Superior Hiboy wass sold in 1995. He looked at the picture and does not believe that the Ghostbuster car was his.

Just spoke with the owner of this coach, he has owned it for the past 18 -20 years. It's definitely not the Byrd car. However, thanks Steve.... Now I will have to add this to my roster. LOL Should have a deal finalized by the end of the week to bring this old girl home. Once here I will get plenty of detailed pictures so the trail of ownership can commence.

Yes the first order of business is to rid it of the GB logos on the doors before it climbs on my trailer.
