A car accident today, September 5th, at the intersection of Bay City-Forestville Road and M-53 Van Dyke claimed the life of Jill Champagne, wife of John Champagne, funeral director and former owner of the Champagne Funeral Chapel in Elkton, Michigan and longtime PCS member. John was driving south on M-53 around 8:00am when an east-bound vehicle failed to yield and struck their vehicle in the passenger side where Jill was seated, fatally injuring her. John was badly injured in the accident and was transported first to McLaren Thumb Hospital in Bad Axe before being transported to McLaren Lapeer, which is a trauma center. His injuries are serious, but he is stable. Their sons and family have been notified and are with him. A young child in the other vehicle was also killed in the accident.
