ACB Fire Chex Device

Nicholas Studer

PCS Elected Director 2022-2025
The Fire Chex device was made by ACB in Lima, OH and was featured in the August 1963 issue of Popular Science. The device is very similar to the Rochester Mak-Saf switch found in at least some Eureka-Cadillacs including my own and discussed at http://www.professionalcarsociety.org/forums/showthread.php?t=19017 However, in addition to the manual capability the Mak-Saf has, this unit also employs a mechanism (that you can hear rattling around inside the unit!) to automatically disconnect the battery power in the event of an impact or rollover.

I have seen a few ambulances with it equipped, including the Springfield-International Travellall ambulance sold by Steve Lichtman at the 2018 PCS Convention in Detroit, MI.

ACB went out of business at some point. I have some of these NOS, and scanned the manual into PDF. Feel free to PM/e-mail me if any interest.
