Wiring a flasher unit to a solid light

My 35 Chevy fire truck has one red emergency light. When you turn it on, it is sold and doesn't flash. I put a flasher with two posts (X and L) between the switch and the light.
There is power to the light switch, there is power to the flasher when the switch is on....but the power then does not leave the flasher.
Do I need a 3 post flasher?????

There is continuity between the two posts on the flasher.

Thoughts appreciated!!!!

Kevin,
Try a HEAVY DUTY Flasher, then make sure all your grounds are good. I have been messing with electrical problems on this old stuff for years and many times I find a bad ground connection.....

Siren installer says....

While talking to a radio/siren installer at the sheriff's office it dawned on me that the flasher I bought was not 6volts. He said that would be the problem!
