Repairing paint chips

My ’72 has a few paint chips (down to the metal) that I want to repair this winter. Are there any other options besides going to the auto store and purchasing a matching color and filling in the defect with a tiny “fingernail polish” brush? I’d like to blend the repair so it’s not noticeable. Also, should I put primer on the metal before I paint?

Gracias amigos

it would depend on the number of them, as long as they are clean primer is not necessary. a fine tip artist brush works good as you can just fill chip then. you only get in trouble if you slop it out of the chip. as for paint if your good at mixing modal paints would work. but if your dealing with metallics use the right stuff so it will match better
