What would these have been used in

Found this listing on eBay (Item Number 122662033538) and thought they were interesting window ambulance details.

"These vintage grills fit into the rear side windows of any make old style (30's, 40's, 50's) ambulance and identify it as an ambulance. The studs in one end fit into a receptacle on the inside of the ambulance window and the screw tightener on the opposite end secures the grill in the window. These are in good physical condition and the tubing, joining brackets and shield appear to all be made of aluminum. Cosmetically, they need to be cleaned up and repainted or powder coated. These would lend authenticity to any vintage ambulance. Dimensions are: 36"x 6.5"x 1"."

I checked with PCS member George Hamlin "looks like something they used on combination cars all right. Stick it up there in the window when it needed to be an ambulance, yank it off for a service." I think this solves it.
