the was a talk awhile back in the proper color for the wheels on a CC car. I have remove the tires off the wheels from the 70 high top. sand blasted them to clean them up. I can say with out a double that these wheels were black when that chassis went out from GM. all three of them are black on the inside and were here was paint left outside it was black then bare steel. all are 3 rivet and marked KH . one one different thing is the small hole is only punched part way threw. so every time you state things as a fact you find it is not so.

now the same of the tires is this set that were left in the dirt on the front are brand new. they still have the casting tabs

Ed,
That punched "hole" is consistent with every C.C. rim I have seen. I don't think that I have never seen one where the hole is actually open to the back side. I have never been able to determine which came black and which came grey.

I took a set off of a '72 Superior LWB Pontiac a while back that was black. I just assumed that it was the way all the LWB Pontiacs were built.

All of my cc rims have the hole all the way through.
I have never seen one with it punched part way.

I have 2 '60s, 2 62's and a '73.

All mine have 3 rivets as well. None welded.

I do have one rim that looks exactly like a cc Cadillac rim with 3 rivets and it is stamped with the Ford oval. Not sure where it came from but I do have one.

Darren

Say one of the Ford script one on my last visit to the yard. All got it till I saw the logo. But as I have received new wheels in both colors ordering the new from GM I would saw we have been over thinking them. As I said all it is is the factory primer/sealer not finish paint anyway.

found this in one of the wheels we broke down today. funny how fast you can go from wheel none to wheel poor

1493833... is that correct??? 76 D Z 1493833

translated = 1976 D (commercial chassis) Z (Limousine) in black or grey primer, with the outer rim riveted to the wheel web.

Now, if you can find the Kelsey Hayes marking which should be somewhere on the inside of the rim where the tire goes, that will help with future identification. Sometimes, there is also some makers marks near the valve stem that also identify the wheel.

I would say that is right . It was the spair in the 72 up in the yard. Looks like they got a replacement a few years newer at about 11 O'Clock from the tag . I past the marks on this later. Today it's clean enough that they Al! Show nicly.

here are the stamps on the 73 wheel. the right side of the valve stem is a 29
