HERE WE HAVE A 1954 PACKARD HENNEY AMBULANCE. I'VE HAD IT FOR AROUND 14 YEARS. I HAD INTENTIONS OF GETTING IT DRIVABLE BUT NO TIME.

THE STORY ON THE CAR IS AS FOLLOWS: IT WAS PURCHASED IN NORTH CAROLINA IN 1985 OR 1986 FROM SOMEONE WHO WAS MAKING A 1970'S PLEASURE VAN OUT OF IT(NOTICE THE WINDOWS IN THE ROOF AND DRIVERS SIDE). HE ALMOST MADE IT TO UPSTATE NEW YORK AND WHILE DRIVING IT, THE WATER PUMP BEARING FAILED, THE SHAFT BROKE AND THE FAN WENT THRU THE RADIATOR. IT WAS TOWED THE REST OF THE WAY AND PUT IN A STORAGE GARAGE. THIS OWNER PASSED AWAY AND I PURCHASED IT IN 1997.

I PULLED THE RADIATOR AND HAD IT PATCHED UP, PURCHASED A NEW WATER PUMP, GOT THE CAR RUNNING AND PARKED IT IN MY STORAGE GARAGE FOR THE WINTER BUT I NEVER GOT BACK TO IT; TOO MANY OTHER PROJECTS. IT HASNT RUN IN 12 OR 13 YEARS BUT I'M PRETTY SURE IT WILL RUN AGAIN. THE CAR CURRENTLY DOES NOT RUN AND DRIVE AND I'M PRETTY SURE THERE ARE NO BRAKES!!

THE CAR HAS A BIG STRAIGHT 8 ENGINE AND STANDARD TRANSMISSION.

HERE IS A LINK TO PICTURES OF THE SAME CAR RESTORED:

CLICK NEXT TO SEE 16 PICTUES IN ALL. I PLANNED ON MAKING LIGHTS FOR THE ROOF TO GET RID OF THE WINDOWS.

AS YOU CAN SEE THE BODY IS FAIRLY STRAIGHT AND SOLID WITH RUST IN THE FRONT FLOORS AND ROCKERS. THE CAR WILL NEED A FULL RESTORATION OR MAKE A RAT ROD OUT OF IT.

I WOULD SAY THAT I HAVE MOST IF NOT ALL OF THE MOLDINGS BUT NO LIGHTS OR SIREN.

I ALSO HAVE A 1953 PACKARD MAYFAIR SPORT COUPE LISTED SEPARATELY.

MORE PICTURES CAN BE SEEN AT MY OLD EBAY LISTING: Item # 120773602173

CALL WITH ANY QUESTIONS. THANKS, PHIL 315-796-1200

I think this car is a 1953. It does not have the '54 headlight rings and the last year Packard made the straight eight engine was '53. I have a '53 conv. and I think the grill was the same for both years.

:my2cents:The side trim is riding high (1954 style), the instrumentation set is a '54 and the bumper guards are '54. 1953 and 1954 grilles are identical, and other minor things, like headlamp doors, can be switched with a screwdriver. It was interesting to note that this car has an alternator. Packard used generators through '54.

The Packard straight eight ran through 1954. Anyway, without having access to seeing the Henney or Packard data plates, the existing evidence indicates this is a 1954.

I stand corrected, the straight eight did run through '54 and was changed to V8 in '55.
