Cole-Hersee switch

I have been helping a friend clean his dad's garage. The old man never had a boat but did have a few hearses many years ago. We found this Cole-Hersee switch. It seems very large to have been in a hearse. It is about 7 inches across and about 4 inches tall. One logo on it says it has been safety approved by the Yacht Safety Board. Any ideas if it may have also been a procar item?

They were more common in fire apparatus with dual atteries, but many Ambulances have them too as in our former '73 S&S Medic Mark-I that Bruce-B has now. Other that the ability to switch to only one or both batteries, they are a master dis-connect switch so things do go wrong (as in having an electrical short in the middle of the night) when the vehicle is unattended.

Thank you all for your input here. While Larry may not be in a rush to get rid of his dad's stuff we know where this one is for now.
