'55 Chevy ambulance

Another coach forwarded to my inbox this morning. Was told it was available in Auburn, MA. After calling however, this coach had already sold. National?

I really like the look of the front end and grill on a 55 Chev verses the 56 or 57.

This is the first 55 Chev procar photo I have seen that I remember.

Very cool ambulance !

That is worth a restoration on big time.

I hope to see it or another one at some point.

I hope a PCS person bought it.

We've talked about that coach before, but I can't find the thread (may be on that other website). As I recall, those pictures are extremely old, and the car has been gone some 10+ years from the lot. Dealer does still turn over some more modern professional cars though, at least in recent years.

Drives me nuts when I can't find stuff.... :confused2:

I know where this lot is, and looking at the picture, this picture had to been taken at least last year, since the trees haven't leafed out yet this spring.

Spotted in Michigan today

While at a car show today we had the opportunity to talk to the owner about this car. He bought it awhile back in Littleton Colorado and had traced its service back to Utah. He is looking for a cot mount for the car if anyone happens to have one.

You have to love a 55 Chevy of any style, but a National ambulance, that is really something! I sure hope someone does the right thing and restores it. BTW, I have actually seen a 1955 National-Chevy ambulance, still "in service" in Paterson, NJ, back in 1974. I thought it was very special then, now I wish I had it. Sorry, I have no pictures, but I remember it being a deep blue color.

Barnette

In the grill is a Barnette name plate. I don’t know about the three door stretch but the guy did say the rear window on the driver side does roll down.

That is what i thought it was.the roof and back door were off for a national. It has to many windows to not have a stretch.
Would have liked to have seen how they laied out the back. I cant imagine crawling in and out the rear door all the time.

Back view

I’m not sure at what point the interior was redone but they kept many aspects of the original at least. He has a cot for it but lacking the mounting ability.

it still surprises me how little people know about there car. but then not a lot of people really do work on there own car. the only way to find out how it was made is to work on it. I would have my doubts is started out as a 4 door sedan. most likely a 2 door wagon.

This isn't rocket science. Just get a picture of the cowl data plate that was attached by GM. It will give you a lot of history as to what it started life as.

Just Googled 1955 Chevrolet image and looks like it started life as a four door wagon. To be a two door the front doors would be longer, a four door sedan the rear door curves downward at the top rear. BUT the four door wagon has short front doors and the side rear doors the top is squared off. Also although there are no good shots of a four door wagon rear end the filled in rear curved 1/4 windows appear to be four door wagon.
